The ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 is a competitive research internship for undergraduate students interested in chemistry and related scientific fields. The programme is offered by the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) and provides an opportunity to work with leading scientists in Spain.
Selected fellows will spend the summer conducting research projects and gaining practical experience in an international scientific environment.
The ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme allows undergraduate students from around the world to participate in advanced research in chemistry and related disciplines.
Participants work in one of ICIQ’s research groups under the supervision of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scientists. They also attend seminars, workshops, and conferences organized by the institute.
This programme helps students gain early exposure to professional research and can serve as a pathway to future master’s or PhD studies at ICIQ.
• Host organization: Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ)
• Location: Tarragona, Spain
• Duration: Up to 3 months (summer research stay)
• Start period: Early June or July 2026
• Research format: Full-time laboratory research
Fellows will join cutting-edge research projects related to chemistry, materials science, and renewable energy technologies.
Participants will receive financial support and professional development opportunities.
• Stipend of about €30 per day (up to €900 per month) during the research stay
• Hands-on research experience with international scientists
• Access to seminars, conferences, and training sessions
• Opportunity to publish or present research results
• Strong preparation for graduate studies in chemistry
By the end of the fellowship, students are required to submit a report and present their research findings.
Students will work on projects in areas such as:
• Catalysis and reaction engineering
• Materials chemistry
• Molecular chemistry
• Renewable energy technologies
• Chemical biology and applied chemistry
These projects address global challenges including sustainable energy and environmental solutions.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Be undergraduate students with a background in chemistry or related fields
• Fields may include chemistry, physics, biochemistry, biology, pharmacy, applied mathematics, or chemical engineering
• Preferably in their third year or final year of undergraduate study
• Have completed at least 50% of their degree credits
• Graduate students are not eligible for this programme
Applicants must also demonstrate strong academic performance and interest in scientific research.
Applicants typically need to submit:
• Online application form
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Academic transcripts
• Statement of research interest
• Identification or passport details for visa processing
• Application deadline: 22 March 2026
• Results announcement: Expected around May 2026
Selected fellows will begin their research stay during the summer months.
The ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to gain real research experience at a globally recognized research institute.
Participants work in state-of-the-art laboratories, collaborate with international scientists, and develop skills essential for careers in scientific research.
